I have come to know, love and deeply appreciate...
My intro to Bayou City CrossFit began with an uber beginner class way back in 2011 full of the stripped-down basics of CrossFit and its core movements. This class was taught by a former BCCF coach where I will never forget what he had us do at the end of our class. It was a Tabata workout with air squats. If you don’t know what that is; it consists of 8 rounds of air squats with 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest. This was hands down the hardest workout I’d ever done to date and I’d done plenty of working out in my day. I came from and endurance background of running, biking and swimming. Needless to say, I had a very hard time sitting and standing for the next couple of days. I mention this story because it’s what hooked me. CrossFit was going to be this ever evolving, challenging new workout regime that I would forever implement as part of my physical activity for as long as I was (am) able. Long story short, I started CrossFit in 2011, quickly became addicted and intrigued so much so that I began to “team” train and learn from a handful of very knowledgeable and experienced coaches all of whom were or are still coaches at BCCF. This was a very intense experience that pushed me to try my hand at several CF competitions as well as coaching. Standing in front of a crowd of eager worker-outers was very scary to me and by far more nerve wracking than competing. But I persevered and learned a great deal about how to execute, give cues, encourage and learn from my class members. Then, I got pregnant with twin boys. I continued to work out and coach until it just wasn’t comfortable anymore. However, I would highly recommend CrossFit and its many options of scaling while working out. BCCF has been in my life now for over 9 years. My boys are 5 now and I continue to CrossFit as much as I am able. In fact, I have a garage full of the equipment. I would also like to mention that my specific class, Lori Reilly’s 5:30pm class, is my self-care, mind and body escape every Monday and Wednesday. I have come to know, love and deeply appreciate the diverse group of people that I workout with and look to them with endearment and awe. We never know what we’re capable of until we push our selves and our limits. Lori Reilly holds this class up to a high standard and works to help us make ourselves better. And this is a big high five BCCF to Katie and Vic for mentoring, supporting and giving Lori a platform to do this. BCCF is a place that holds their clients near and dear, a place where you will grow stronger in mind and body and better yet a place where you will meet lifelong friends.
