Bio

Mike grew up in the west Houston/Katy area, playing football throughout his youth and throughout High School. With no colleges willing to take a chance on a scholarship on a 5’8 185 lbs defensive end with average ability and little talent, he went on to pursue his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University. After graduating, Mike joined the Police Department. After losing a few too many foot chases, he decided that he needed to get back into shape and was convinced to give CrossFit a shot in 2011. Despite his initial reluctance to push his physical and mental limits, he persisted and became a regular at Bayou City CrossFit around 2012. Mike stepped away from BCCF in 2014 to address personal issues and during that time managed to gain roughly 70 lbs. in unattractive weight. He credits zero exercise and eating almost exclusively fast food for his weight gain. However, in 2015, Mike realized that “fat, drunk, and stupid” was no way to go through life, and he returned to BCCF. It took approximately 18 months of dedication, but he returned to his high school weight and at the age of 35, was posting higher PRs than he was at 18. Mike continues his journey today at BCCF and became CFL1 certified and coach in 2019.
